La Scassatina is a luxurious villa, available for holiday rentals in the Lucca hills east of Lucca and west of Florence. It is less than an hour by train, bus or car from Florence and 40 minutes from Pisa International Airport. It is just 20 minutes by car from the villa to the ancient walled city of Lucca, in northern Tuscany. In little over an hour you can find yourself exploring the marble caves at Carrara, the elegant shops of the seaside Forte di Marmi, the delights of the fishing villages of the Cinque Terre and the Italian Riviera, or the divine wines of Chianti. In winter, the ski slopes of the resort of Abetone are an hour away.
The surrounding area is classic Tuscany; terraced olive groves and vineyards, ancient farmhouses, fattorias and village churches. Clock tower bells peal out across the valleys, reminding one of life unchanged through the centuries. The road on which the villa is found is part of the "Strada del Vino", which links the famous vineyards of the village of Montecarlo and that of Valgiano, home of one of the great “Super Tuscan” wines, and only a pleasant hillside walk from the villa. The shops, markets and restaurants of Lucca and the nearby villages are just minutes away. The famous villas and gardens of northern Tuscany are dotted around the Lucca hills, minutes from La Scassatina.
The villa has its origins dating back 300 years and was part of a large country estate. The restoration of La Scassatina and its surrounds has only recently been completed. Situated on a private and peaceful headland, it overlooks 2.7 ha. of gardens, olive groves, swimming pool and terraces and the ancient village of San Gennaro.
